This course continues the linguistic development of the French language and culture. Reading and writing skills receive more attention as students are introduced to more lengthy reading materials. Students demonstrate their comprehension both orally and by written word. Students are required to read one French literary work.

Eleventh Grade

This course is an intermediate/advanced language course intended to build on and continue developing a student’s knowledge of the language patterns acquired in French 1 and French 2, and the culture of the people who speak it. The class emphasizes the four language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking, stressing the speaking skills. Emphasis is placed on reading and writing skills as the students begin to encounter lengthier reading materials and are required to demonstrate their comprehension of those materials. Students are required to read one French literary work.
Prerequisite: Mark of A in French 2, or a mark of B in Honors French 2, for both semesters or the recommendation of the French 2 instructor. Students follow a regular course of study for French 3 and sign an Honors Contract outlining certain Requirements needed to receive Honors credit.

Twelfth Grade
2 Semesters
Students enrolling in this course should have a good command of French grammar and vocabulary and have competence in listening, reading, speaking, and writing. This course stresses interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational communication through the development of reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Extensive emphasis will be placed on the organization and writing of composition as well as an appreciation for French culture.

This course is designed to convey to the student the fundamentals of Latin grammar, syntax, and vocabulary. In addition, this course provides the student with an introduction to culture and history of Roman Republic and Empire.

This course is the continuing development of Latin fundamentals: grammar, syntax, and vocabulary. Translations from Roman history and literature increase reading skills, and the study of Roman culture continues.

This course is devoted to reading and translating classics of Latin literature, using the works of Caesar, Cicero, Ovid, Sallust, and others. Ongoing grammar and vocabulary development with in-depth study of Roman history and culture.

This two-semester course covers Latin selections of Vergil's Aeneid in the first semester and Caesar's Gallic Wars in the second. The grammatical structures, vocabulary, and political, cultural and social context of each work will be thoroughly examined. This course involves daily readings of un-adapted Latin texts and as a result, students must have learned all the forms for Latin nouns, verbs, adjectives and pronouns and must have the ability to both translate at sight and do prepared translations of Latin texts.
Prerequisites: Latin III and Department Recommendation.
